Contributed papers

Papers are invited in the form of regular manuscripts. There is no separate short paper format. Papers must conform to the submission policy. All manuscripts should be written in English, be in a 2-column format, and be 6–8 pages in length, with additional page charges applicable for pages 7 and 8 (EUR 50 each).

Special sessions

Special sessions consist of 6 papers presenting a unifying theme from a diversity of viewpoints. Proposals must clearly describe the motivation and relevance of the session. The organizer notifies Contributing Authors (CAs) of their special session code. The corresponding author of each paper submits the paper online (PDF format) as a special paper. Submission as a special paper requires the special session code.

Guidelines for Special Sessions:

    1. Session proposals have no page length requirement, but are typically in the 2-6 page (single column) range. Reviewers appreciate concise documents.
    2. In the introduction, proposals should tell the reviewers why the topic is relevant to the DES community (i.e., the topic should be clearly motivated).
    3. An objective should be clearly stated, that is, an explanation of what is meant to be accomplished by organizing this session.
    4. A list of 6 interested authors will be appreciated, but is not mandatory.
    5. References should be included if necessary. Figures are optional, but may be included as desired.
    6. After approval, you will be given a session code. All authors in your session should submit their papers using this session code. Session organizers must submit their proposals with enough advance time so that authors have time to submit their papers before the deadline.

NOTE: All Special Session papers will be reviewed individually, using the same process as for regular paper submissions. It is possible that the session may be accepted, but not all of the associated papers are accepted. In this case, your session will be filled with submitted papers which will be assigned by the Program Committee.

International School on Discrete Event Systems

At this stage the 2nd International SCHOOL on Discrete Event Systems has not yet been confirmed. A fund solicitation has been submitted to the Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq) in response to government call for conference sponsorship. We hope we confirm by September 2020.

Submission and Publication Policies

  • All conference attendees need to pay the publication fee.
  • The payment of the Full registration fee assures the publication of the uploaded paper(s) in the conference proceedings.
  • The payment of Student registration fee does not grant permission neither for paper upload nor for its publication in the conference proceedings.
  • The payment of the publication free grants the upload/publication of two (2) papers. Each extra paper upload will require an additional cost of EUR 250.
  • Final manuscripts are limited to six (6) pages. Each page in excess of six (6) will incur an additional charge of EUR 50, up to a maximum of two (2) additional pages.

Copyright conditions

All publication material submitted for presentation at an IFAC-sponsored meeting (Congress, Symposium, Conference, Workshop) must be original and hence cannot be already published, nor can it be under review elsewhere. The authors take responsibility for the material that has been submitted. IFAC-sponsored conferences will abide by the highest standard of ethical behavior in the review process as explained on the Elsevier webpage (https://www.elsevier.com/authors/journal-authors/policies-and-ethics), and the authors will abide by the IFAC publication ethics guidelines (https://www.ifac-control.org/events/organizers-guide/PublicationEthicsGuidelines.pdf/view).

Accepted papers that have been presented at an IFAC meeting will be published in the proceedings of the event using the open-access IFAC-PapersOnLine series hosted on ScienceDirect (https://sciencedirect.com/). To this end, the author(s) must grant exclusive publishing rights to IFAC under a Creative Commons license when they submit the final version of the paper. The copyright belongs to the authors, who have the right to share the paper in the same terms allowed by the end user license, and retain all patent, trademark and other intellectual property rights (including research data).

Visa Information

Brazil used to adopt a policy of reciprocity regarding visas. This means that nationals of countries that require visas for Brazilian citizens will need a visa to travel to Brazil. However, the new elected government is currently changing this policy, which has been contested by opposition parties. We will provide more updates along the year on that matter.

Tourists visas can be granted for those who are traveling for tourism or to artistic competitions, sport competitions, conferences, seminars or meetings, among other purposes – provided there is no payment or remuneration of any type.

Publication fee

All registered participants will receive admission to the welcome and farewell receptions and the conference proceedings on a USB flash drive. Full registration includes the conference banquet. Registration packets will be available at the conference registration desk.
