Travel Information

The electric voltage in Rio is 127V, 60 Hertz, with plugs having two or three rounded pins (types C and N). For further details of the power plug, please visit https://www.worldstandards.eu/electricity/plugs-and-sockets/n/.

A complete guide of Rio can be found at http://visit.rio/en/welcome/.

Yellow fever vaccination is recommended. For more information, visit https://www.cdc.gov/yellowfever/healthcareproviders/vaccine-info.html.

Transportation

By metro and bus

There is a public transportation system in Rio, however, it is not the most intuitive or easiest system to use. We recommend to take the metro to Bofatogo station or Cardeal Arcoverde station and then take bus lines 513 or 581, respectively.

By taxi and ridesharing

Taxis and ridesharing companies (such as Uber and 99) are probably the best way to get around. We are currently working with Uber to provide WODES 2020 Attendees a discount during the conference.

Visa information

Brazil used to adopt a policy of reciprocity regarding visas. This means that nationals of countries that require visas for Brazilian citizens will need a visa to travel to Brazil. However, the new elected government is currently changing this policy, which has been contested by opposition parties. We will provide more updates along the year on that matter.

Tourists visas can be granted for those who are traveling for tourism or to artistic competitions, sport competitions, conferences, seminars or meetings, among other purposes – provided there is no payment or remuneration of any type.
